I work from my home office in the North-West of Auckland. Close to the rugged west coast I am constantly inspired by nature and the arts.

I am a member of the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects having graduated with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture with honours.

Having been in the industry for over 20 years I have a broad experience of working on both residential and rural properties. While working predominantly around Auckland, projects    have seen me travel within both the north and south islands.

I believe for a project to be successful it is important to marry carefully the wishes of the client, the architectural style of the building and the wider site context.

These components combined, also lead to the individuality of each project, be it a traditional style or a more contemporary response. Being open to change throughout the design process is a key component in ensuring the best design response is achieved.

I will work with you from concept to completion on your landscape design to achieve the best results. I am always very happy to be involved and work closely with other design professionals and contractors on new and existing projects.

The Design Process

The design of any garden begins with an onsite consultation. This is where the client's wishes for their new garden are discussed, along with looking at existing site conditions, the timing of the project, and the client's budget.

Following this meeting, a project brief is drawn up as well as a fee schedule. Once the brief is accepted, the site is surveyed, and a draft landscape concept is drawn up and presented to the client. The draft concept outlines areas of hard landscape as well as areas of planting. The draft design is further refined and developed with sketches and perspectives helping to communicate the overall finished look of the design.

When the hard landscape plans are finalised, planting plans are produced which identify the plant types, the quantities, and their size at planting.
Other services you may wish to consider include :

  • Project management. This is a successful way to ensure the design is implemented as per the plans.
  • Plant procurement. This ensures that the plants arriving on site are exactly what are required and at the best price.

We worked with Guy after meeting him at the Home Show. He developed a detailed hard landscape plan and planting plan for a complete garden makeover of our property in a ‘Mediterranean style’ in keeping with our Tuscan styled townhouse. Guy helped us throughout the project and we would definitely recommend him as a very professional and personable Landscape Architect. He was always willing to listen to our ideas and needs, incorporating them into the plan wherever possible, appropriate. The end result was just what we wanted and we are thrilled with our new garden.

I have loved working with Guy during the last few months of designing, constructing, and Planting our new garden after totally revamping what was an overgrown garden. Guy listens well, adapted effortlessly to our many requests, and has given great advise at every decision point. Guy has been very responsive and patient throughout the project and is a pleasure to deal with. Most importantly he worked well to understand our budget, and we are very happy with both the process and the end result.

Mission Bay

I contracted Guys services to transform what was a really horrible outdoor area into a space that invited you to go outside. Guy listened to the brief and drew up plans, making suggestions to improve the overall design. During construction Guy was onsite as required to make sure the plan was being followed. His plant suggestions were spot on. Guy was a pleasure to work with and I now have an outdoor space that I just love!

Herne Bay

Guy exceeded my expectations in all areas, coming up with a truly inspirational garden design that brings colour and joy all year round, maximising the indoor, outdoor flow, providing numerous outdoor living spaces in a limited size courtyard garden. Guy has made the garden feel many times larger than it actually is, with a fantastic ambience the minute you set foot in it, more than achieving my design brief of a tropical resort style garden. If you want someone who listens, has creative flair, is on time and delivers spectacular results, then I highly recommend Guy Brackebush for your garden design project
